As Mother’s Day approaches there are inevitably a slew of articles in the media about women chefs, but Chef-owner Lisa Schroeder at Portland restaurant turns the maternal instinct to nurture with comfort food into a thriving business. Don’t imagine that she’s laid back when it comes to running a successful restaurant though: “On Saturday and Sunday we feed 750 people for brunch and I always say Mr. 653 does not care that 652 people were fed in front of him, so I’m constantly here,” says Schroeder.
