Mother’s Day

Crunchy French Toast from Chef Lisa Schroeder

As Mother’s Day approaches there are inevitably a slew of articles in the media about women chefs, but Chef-owner Lisa Schroeder at Portland restaurant turns the maternal instinct to nurture with comfort food into a thriving business. Read about her in The Mother of Mother’s. Don’t imagine that she’s laid back when it comes to running a successful restaurant though: “On Saturday and Sunday we feed 750 people for brunch and I always say Mr. 653 does not care that 652 people were fed in front of him, so I’m constantly here,” says Schroeder. Read the interview. My absolute favorite of her dishes, and her signature breakfast dish, The Crunchy French Toast is pictured above. Here’s the recipe in case you want to tackle it for Mother’s Day!
