Chew the Fat

Public speaking is not my forte…there’s a reason I went with writing instead of broadcasting. But I’ve followed Chef Craig Hartman, who went from Keswick Hall chef to BBQ maestro of the BBQ Exchange in Gordonsville (try ALL the housemade sauces if you haven’t been), and his C-ville-based radio show Chew the Fat. If you haven’t been following the interviews, check out the one-on-one sessions Hartman recently did with Melissa Close Hart, Harrison Keevil and Dean Maupin here. Through one of those what-a-small-world coincidences, Hartman cooked at my wedding a couple of years ago. Flawlessly, needless to say. So when he asked me to be one of interviewees on his show I couldn’t say no. Under any other circumstances, my total ineptitude with the spoken word would have had me saying no to anything involving the word “interview.” After a chat with the husband (“snap out of it, honey, you’ll be fine”) I decided to man up (so to speak). And I’m glad I did. To be featured on a show that has had Melissa Close Hart on it, I mean how could you not, right? And as it turns out, Craig has a bit of a talent for interviewing. I may have to get some tips.
